After nearly three years of wanting this, I finally sprung for it.
Gotta keep the M42 stuff alive gents! I respect what those of you have done with custom turbo systems, but I have not the ability to do such a project, and I was really looking for something very reliable for both daily duty and auto-x duty as well.
Speaking of which, I have auto-x next Sunday (22nd) and it will be the last in normal aspirated mode. I will put this on during the week after the Feb 22nd auto-x. I will then have until April to work any kinks out I may encounter, if I do. I am also going to look into some boost/pressure gauges, oil temp gauges, and a wideband 02.
This stuff is beautiful. It all looks top notch, and everything was packaged neatly. Props to Downing for giving the M42 a great F/I chance. I am glad I jumped onboard while I had the chance. Jim told me that I have the last 94-95 318 kit they will ever make. Just made it. Whew!

I can't wait! :)

nice setup! how much ?
-
Retail.....enough said :o
Seriously though, too much, but I had to splurge this once....worth it for me.
The Downing Kit is very nice.
-
Wow I thought they didn't make those anymore. Can't wait to see it all put together.
-
Turns out, Magnussen (Eaton's dealer) had a few stored away in their warehouse and sent them to Downing...THey had 4 blowers left before I ordered mine...
-
Damn. Wish I was ready to "blow" that kind of money. I've been dreaming about their kit since I ordered the back issue of Grassroots Motorsports... I also thought that they were done making them. Good score, definite win. (http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif)
edit: btw my mouth is still hanging open.

Yeah this stuff is top notch...it's killing me that I can't install for another week or so....but it's almost been three years, so I guess a week won't kill me.
I'll take lots of photos if I can remember.
-
Does the kit come with bigger injectors or a chip? If so, I would really apreciate the PN on the side of the injectors. Please take some pics of the intallation!
Cheers
Justin
-
No the DASC used the stock injectors and stock ECU...
I will definitely take pics of the install!
-
Damnit. I've been waiting for something like this and of course I just spent the money on my body work instead. Figures I'd miss out on something like that. They're not too far from me either so I could just go pick up a kit and drive home with a shit eating grin the whole way. lol Good pickup.
-
Oh darn....haha
Go buy one anyway :p
-
Subscribed.
This should be interesting. Price??
-
Will update next Monday or so...Will begin work then. Don't have a ton of time to work on it per day, so I will work on it throughout the week.
Price is the same as it always was @3395
-
Started work yesterday afternoon work....
A friend of mine came over and we pretty much got all teh stock crap out (a few more things).
Will work more on Friday.

very nice and please keep us updated with pics :)

DONE!
I gotta say fellas, this kit is definitely worth every cent. Everything just goes together so well and all the parts are high quality craftsmanship!
The car drives phenomenally. At about 3200rpm, you start to hear the S/C whine, and by 3500 and all the way to redline the thing screams!
NOTE: the AFM plug had not been spliced and lengthened as of these pictures yet.

Have a video, but the point-and-shoot camera is crap and the video therefore, sucks. Will have to get some better video another time.
-
it looks great :) give us some videos :)
-
looking great.
im in the middle of putting everything together in my E30 with the DASC kit.
hopefully i will finish it next week as i need to fabricate SC support since my engine mounts are M40 and not M42....
did u use the original gas pedal cable or was a new one supplied in the kit? i got my kit w/o new gas pedal cable and im not sure if this is ok or not...
Ron.
-
aaaaa
-
The kit comes with a new throttle cable....it is an OE BMW part from another BMW model however.
-
The setup is clean. Have you dyno'ed the car to see how much HP you gave gained?
-
haha not yet...just got it going last night!
I plan to one of these days. I don't really care all that much, but I am a bit curious to see what it really puts down at the wheels.
-
Nice!
-
Thanks..it's a blast to drive!
-
do u have the p.n. of the throttle cable?
thanks
Ron.
-
Actually, no I don't. It didn't come with a tag or any kind of printing on it. All I know is that it is an OE BMW Part.
Give Downing a Call Monday, they will more than likely accommodate you.

UPDATE!
Been driving for almost 2.5 weeks now...
DASC is awesome. Feels just like the good old M42, but with power :D
Had two small issues the first week:
1) return coolant hose was too close to the fan and got a tiny chunk taken out [FIXED, backed hose off of thermostat housing]
2) small fuel leaks at the new AFPR [FIXED, tightened hose barbs]
Last weekend, I also make a custom intake heat shield box. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but I think it should definitely help keep some of that heat out, and keep the fresh cool air in.

i know this is an old thread, but do you have some vids or horsepower numbers???
I am seriously interested in a DASC, and i know that they started making them again.
Its either the DASC or an S50 swap, they seem to be about the same price, and nearly the same power...
