Title: Any good threads for any free mods or deletes?
Post by: JoeDellio on February 12, 2009, 11:00:27 PM
Usually every car forum Im on there are "free" things you can do to your car to make it a little better. Ive only run across a few on here like the fan delete mod and deleting some of the mess of the cooling system. Any more that are more detailed? I couldnt even find suffiecient info on just those 2.

yea - the COP conversion is another mod - not free, but can be done either by purchasing the kits sold by others, or by piecing together such a kit on your own by sourcing out the used parts and making the COP plate...

SEARCHSEARCHSEARCH!!!

deleting the fan is to smple to hardly even need a thread, LOL
but...just remove the shroud, then remove the 4 allen bolts..no fan....but the clutch it's self will still be there, doesnt really help at all i dont hink hp wise,

mess under the intake, thats more of maintenence, issues...kindal ike a cooling/vaccum tune up. heres the link

http://m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3621&highlight=mess+under+the+intake

or

http://m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2742&highlight=mess+under+the+intake

also, try weight reduction... i know stripping the interior might not be your thing, but you can remove the spare tire, thats free.

give your car a tune up, it probably needs it.
good set of spark plugs, nkg are supposed to be the best, but i run bosch +4's, eplace the air box with a AEM dry-flo filter, cai kits can be made for under 70$..thats pretty cheap.

as for the COP kits, a set of volvo 850 wires work great, and are easily found in junkyards, the lower the milage the better.

get a chip, dinan sells them for around 200$..cheaper than mark d, or jim conforti, but work EXACTLY THE SAME

get a set of nice tires, falken azenas or ziex's, you'll love them

thats about all the "cheap" stuff i can think of off the top of my head.

Im not tryin to sound like an asshole, but the search button on this particular forum sucks. It brings up tons of threads that you have to sit and read through that most of the time go nowhere. I dont know if its a lack of total members or what. I just got this car and its frustrating not being able to find a forum that has a lot of info at hand. Every new car I get I like to fully understand and want to know what everything is under the hood and where it connects to. I will be putting another engine (another M42) in this car at the end of the year so that will help the learning curve.

try r3v, see how you like it...that will help your learning curve.

No worries man. I know how you feel. Volvo 850s were made between 93 and 97. Any of those will work. You can also use the advanced search feature, search for a thread started by me and key words "volvo sparkplug wires".
Other cheap/ free mods include PS delete, volvo electic cooling fan, volvo air dam, ebay chip and weight loss.
Good luck
Justin

Thanks for the info. Not lookin to autocross the car or make it fast. I bought this car just to be comfy and reliable/good MPG. Ive had 2 12 second talons that hardly needed any mods to go that fast. What Ive learned modding cars that if it isnt fast stock, dont waste your money TRYING to make it fast :D But thanks for the info, to the other guy above you with the 345 posts, chill the fuck out man, I didnt personally offend you.

If you're looking to turn it into a cheap, efficient DD, Find yourself an open 3.64 or 3.73 OPEN differential (you can sell your 4.10 for a profit even if its not an LSD), ditch the clutch fan, ditch the PS and find some Ford injectors in the JY (PM me for specificity). If the engine is healthy and the temp is below 85f, you can run it on 87 octane no problem. You should be looking at an easy 35mph highway at any speed, high 20s in the city if you're careful. The Volvo air damn will actually improve your fuel economy by reducing the amount of air getting under the car. You can pick these up in any JY that has early 90s volvos for less than $10. Zip ties work wonders.

Give me a break man, you are on there enough to know that they don't exactly take kindly to new blood. The knowledge base is much better than it is on here, but there is just a stigma about it. Not directed at you, but there are tons of guys over there that have been members for like a year with over 4K posts that act like they are gods. But ehh, they do have a badass OT section.

Bro. Fuck the search button on this forum. I dont know if its me or my computer, but I can search other sites just fine.

Whenever I search ANYTHING it comes up with just the regular forum page, like it did nothing at all. You can search "dick and balls" and the same threads will show up as if you search "E36 gear ratios". I dont have time for that shit, I am a baller who needs to know answers to specific shit on my E36 when the site is full of E30 players. Im not some 16yr old car newb thats asking how to change oil with an adjustable wrench. :D

i don't even know if you're trying to be funny there...if you need specific shit to your E36 you should learn how to fucking suck it up and parse through the "dick and balls" threads.

Thanks man, Ive been learning to just read the threads for the hell of it. Im just use to seaching for something and having the topic pop up in the title of the threads. Some people on here just act like the search button is the "easy" button, but not always true.
