hey there,
have an easy timing question... will the deflection rail (off an E36 M42) fit in an E30 M42 ? strait forward swap? if it doesn't, what is required to make it fit???
thanks!

Good question. The lower timing case changed in 9/1993, which is also when the deflection rail was introduced.
The deflection rail mounts with 2 bolts, but the E30 idler sprocket mounts with only one bolt.
It's possible that the updated lower timing case introduces a new hole for the second bolt, but I can't say for sure.
