Title: Electronic Supercharger???

Has anyone heard anything about the Electronic Supercharger as far as If it works well. I saw it in a Super Street magazine and was wondering if it is worth buying for my 318is. Let me know. Thanks

Rice, there just air blowers made of plastic, they don't make any pressure, its just a restriction in the air flow to your engine. And if you don't believe me, do the calculations for how much air your engine is going to draw over the entire rpm range then compare it to the false cfm rating on the blower

This is a half heater fan... a friend of mine tried this, and at 6000rpm in a 1.6 liter engine with 100bhp the vacuum from the inlet raised the rpms of the "leafblower"...

I know this is old but are you referring to the d/c motor that bolts inline with the driveshaft?

That second idea looks promising.  It'd be a nice 'boost' engine, but it looks too small to provide sole power for the car.  If it could do 20 miles form 0-25 I'd be interested, but the weight has to be a liability.  Although the weight is nicely distributed, I'll bet that's 300 pounds.  That would take the edge off our little Bimmers, wouldn't it?

It's also a 'mild hybrid' conversion.  No way to recharge other than a home setup.

As for the electronic supercharger, they're garbage.  I did see a legitimate one, but it required a really solid ~2hp DC motor, gearbox and half a turbocharger impeller.  Worked well up to 6psi but was very cumbersome, requiring substantial electrical upgrades to the vehicle's charging system.

These electric superchargers are "affectionately" known as hamsterchargers on some of the other BMW lists. Whether the load imposed by these things is compensated by the momentary boost that they give is debatable. There is no such thing as free power, regardless of how it's packaged. If infrequent bursts of short term power are all you need, then the additional energy spent recharging the system might be worth it.

Dude, they are only good for R/C planes or boats, I had one-they kinda sound neat when you're inside of the car during acceleration, but they don't do jack!! please waste your money like I did.

Yeah, they're all gimmicks really, however, that's the first one that I have seen that was actually functional.  Kinda cool IMO.

Just by a hair dryer and bolt that to your airfilter do about as much good lol
