Title: Fuel pump relay?
Post by: Quincy56 on January 30, 2009, 05:15:14 PM
My daughter's car won't start.  It has a new fuel pump from just last year.  I'm thinking maybe fuel pump relay or main relay.  I know where they are on a E30 325i M20, but have no idea on a M42 E30.

Help!

there is a fuel relay, located on the firewall, right next the main relay and O2 sensor relay. you have to remove the plastic covering to get to them (on the firewall, behind the intake manifold)
there are a lot of no-start situations... can you describre how the car was before? work done? when you turn the key to the start position, do you hear the fuel pump work? dash all light up? any codes?( stomp test, 5x on the accel, CEL will flash codes)

I'm in New England, the car is in Calif.  From what I've been told it turns over, but no start.  Seems it was intermittently running rough for a while before this happened.  No real recent work except a new catalytic converter (universal).  Hmm I hope that isn't clogged, probably not likely, but that did happen to me once with a car I owned.

check the usual culprits IE crankshaft position sensor. it should read out to about 1250ohms. check the plug wires and coils.
