Title: In car camera mount!
Post by: Screaming M42 on January 19, 2009, 06:22:38 PM
I did all of this using stuff from Home Depot and $7.67.

I took a 36in peice of aluminum and cut it down to 24 inches. then i found two 1.5in u-bolts. i got in the car, marked where the holes for the u-bolts need to go and drilled them. the u-bolts were a little too long and i didnt want them to squeak on the headrest posts. I put little rubber dots to fix that.

looking back, i can probably make it shorter and i shouldv'e super glued the rubber dots on.

The steel bar can be dangerous if you have a passenger riding with you... Especially in an accident..

I made one using 1x2 woodstick.. hahaha... Drill 2 holes to slot into the headrest and 1 more for the bolt... hammer the bolt into it and it'll stay flushed..
Paint it if you want it to look better, otherwise, it's good to use...

The wood stick is theoretically less damaging since it would break more easily in the event of an accident compared to a steel or aluminum bar. And it's easier to work with too..
