If I start it when the motor is cold, everything is fine. But when I start after the motor has been run, even if its just for a minute, its spits and sputters with the revs jumping between 300 and maybe 1200 requiring you stay on the gas to keep it from dying out. If I start it and try to take off while its doing this, it will have like 3 horsepower and then once it passes 2,000 RPM be just fine. No matter what you do, the problem lasts about 1 minute and goes completely away. Is this some problem with a cold start valve or something like that? Thanks

sounds like a huge vaccum leak/icv to me...
try cleaning your icv and replacing all your cracked hoses.
that should fix your problem...if not get back with us.

I just bought this one a month ago, and its spent that whole time getting paint. Now thats done I wanna look further into this. Im gonna tear it down hopefully next weekend. Hoses are pretty new and I dont hear any vac leaks. Whats the icv?

idle control valve.
you could just buy a new one, but there like 168$$ new. so if your anything like me, id rather try cleaning/fixing it first. ;)
but the intake manifold hides manyhoses and lines...i'd just visually inspect all the hoses i could, and if they look new...maybe it's just your icv

Yeah my other e30 I had to replace all the hoses, so Im familiar with the process. Idle control valve...gotcha...its the morning so Im not all there just yet. Its been cleaned so I guess replacement is the next step, and $168 isnt so bad really, just as long as it works!

try cleaning it with electrical cleaner?
if it works...
then you can give me the 168$$ ;)
-
Oooh tried that, so no $$$ for you....but thanks for the help!
-
hmmmm....make sure all hoses are secure?
-
welcome to the club...search my massive thread and you will see all that suffer. Some people have figured out their problems, some haven't. I am just looking for the definitive answer.
Can you accelerate when it starts doing the rough idle, because I can't.

^What he said. Lot's of ppl been working on this for awhile. I'm betting the ICV and new hoses don't fix your problem if you can't hear a vacuum leak and have already tried cleaning the ICV.
I was hoping that fuse box thing would turn out to be the answer... haven't heard anything about it since.

When you start it up warm, how does it do at WOT? (Wide Open Throttle)
I ask because O2 readings are tossed at WOT......
