I broke my differential about a month ago and spent Christmas eve and Christmas night replacing it with a large case 3.73. Well i finally got around to taking my old diff apart and found a few interesting things. The pinion gear was missing a tooth, both of the side gears were missing a tooth, one of the spider gears was completely destroyed, and the carrier bearing was broken off on the side cover.

Wow, How did you break it? And did you try to rebuild it the same way or go with some mods. Maybe make it LSD? I want to know. I am thinking of buying a 325is diff. and replacing mine.

it just broke after 4 years of abuse, I'm not going to rebuild it, it is an lsd and the clutches and friction plates were wore out also, I replaced it with a 3.73 medium case lsd out of a 325

I think you need gearbox from E36 ;)

If I was to go that route I would have to get the euro 6 speed

so does the med case from the 325i bolt right in or are there mods needed to be done. Im looking at getting rid of my open diff and going with either a 410 or a 373 lsd...
let me know, i want to get this done asap

all e30 diffs are interchangeable and 5series e28 fits to you just may have to switch the back cover.
