Title: Supercharger q's
Post by: JoeZV8 on January 08, 2009, 11:02:30 AM
Hey Guys, I’m new to the forums over here, although not totally new to BMW forums (been on bimmerforums for many many years).* I own a Z3 and the wife drives an e46, the e46 is stock while the Z3 went from na M44 to DASC M44 to cam’d LS1.
*
I’m contemplating an M42 project so I’ve been poking around, searching and seeing what is going on these days with the M42 as far as supercharges go for a while now which has led me to this post.* Since I’m familiar with the DASC having owned/installed that setup before and since it is so straight forward -I think I may go down the Eaton blower route again. I found some older threads, threads about KO Perf, and thread about guy with crazy Rotrex setup.*
*
Are there any current sources for an off the shelf manifold that will work with an eaton blower? If not, can you point me to threads of what people have done when going custom? Used DASC kits still seem to be commanding a pretty penny, and I’m not paying more for an SC kit than I do for the project car.
*
TIA!

Nope, I don't think their is any off the shelf manifold. You will have to custom build it

Are you sure about that?

I thought somebody here a few months ago said they called and Downing said that they no longer sell the kit?

Hmm. Not shelling $3k+ into a $1k project car.  The Z was the expensive project, this one is more about a budget build. I may stick to an NA m42 for. A while as I address other things, even the stock m42 should be fun in a ~2200lb car

Back in the day I went with NGK's R7113-7. Not sure if #'s changed or what but they were 1 step colder and what was recommended by many DASC'ers at the time.  This is what I used from summer 2003 through fall 2005 and had zero issues.
