I figured I should have replaced it when I had the head off but Nooooo I had to get in a rush and not wait for the order.
I think I'll steam clean the front of the engine before I do this, and i might as well do it along with the E36 steering rack I just got...
Anyone know of any "gotchas" in this gasket replacement? Hope there are no stripped bolts!
-
i would also like to know some tips as i plan to do this gasket replacement in a fe days, mine leaks like a faucet on startup
-
I replaced mine, it was pretty straight forward. I had to remove the alternator in order to get access to all the bolts. But everything went smoothly, I just followed the instructions in the factory repair manual. Of course now that I fixed that leak, I've got another leak from somewhere else too. Figures

Just replaced mine a few days ago... really straightforward as mentioned above. Just remove the airbox and alternator and you have easy access to it.
-
I guess it gives me the excuse I needed to get the dang car up on the stands again...
-
You replaced the o-ring too, right?
-
No need to put it up on stands, and yes, I replaced the O-Ring as well.
-
I also replaced the o-ring as well. No stands here either.
-
I'll put her back up and out of comission for a bit as i want to do E36 steering rack, e36 shift lever with rebuild and maybe a few other clean ups
-
o ring????????? are you guys talking about the filter top caps large o ring?
glad to hear it is pretty easy. i take it this is a common leak?
-
No, there is an o-ring AND a gasket for the filter housing body.

IIRC, that upper round hole.
