Title: Low RPM Chip
Post by: Birdman16 on December 19, 2008, 05:11:46 PM
Hey guys, I know winter is here, but I want to get a head start on all of my summer goodies before college hits... or Christmas for that matter...  I'm looking for a chip that gives an e30 a bump in horsepower in the lower to mid range.  I like how the car responds between 4500 to 6500 RPMs but need a little something extra for off the line power.  I know this is a bit weird but if anyone has heard of anything please let me know.

I'm not allowed to get a eBay or MarkD Chip because it raises the rev limiter and my dad does not want the car to have another head replacement.  I don't care if it raises the rpms by a couple hundred, but nothing drastic.  Just looking for more lower and mid range punch to an already zippy e30.

Thanks,

Maybe contact Mark about one of his 91 or 93 octane chips without the rev limit increase. I'm not sure you are going to find a chip that provides gains in the low end. You have to realize that chips hope to optimize a stock engine, our little M42 just aren't torque monsters and never will be. My MarkD chip woke the car up completely, I guarantee that the overall performance increase would satisfy your craving for more bottom end.

There really is no reason I can think of why Mark would not fashion up a 6550rpm (or whatever) for you.
While the mapings are for a 7100rpm redline on his M42 chips, I would imagine he could get something going for you. There is a group buy for his chips on this board, you can even get him a p/m with questions. He has a website too!

How about just practicing a little self control and not rev past say 6000? Even with a 7200rpm ebay chip, i rarely go past 5k. There is really no way to have a chip that can improve torque below 3000rpm.

Megasquirt? Or just tell your dad the markD only revs to 6900... (I can edit that if you want :)  )

I'm pretty sure these cars can not be driven with self control...lol  I love the sound from 4000 up and its just mad raspy when you get it past six thousand.  I know these cars are not torque monsters and I just figured I would give it a shot.

By the way, is it possible to fashion a MarkD Chip without a rev limiter increase?!?!  That would be sweet.  I'm looking for just about any chip that can do what I want, but I've heard great things about the Mark D Chip so I'll contact him.

Thanks guys,
