Title: Spark plugs
Post by: THATDONFC on December 17, 2008, 05:07:20 PM
I tried to change my plugs yesterday and I bought some NGK BKR6EK.

I lookede at my old plugs and the don't have the copper piece above the porcelain. The part that goes into the wire. They just have what looks like a stud... So I disregard that and I try to install them. The plug won't go all the way into the wire.

These are the right plugs, correct?

What is going on here? I've never seen this before...
HELP. My plugs ar4e toast and I need to change them.

you bought NGK and they should have a little knob you screw onto the threaded "stud" on the end of the plug. If you can't find one then you could unscrew the ones from your car and put them on your new plugs, unless they don't screw off.

Well I tried to unscrew one of the caps and it broke the inside of the conductor. Or whatever it's called...

My old plugs don't have anything on top, just a stud. Do you think it could have unscrewed inside the spark plug wire?

I'm so confused. I was advised to not put anything other than those NGK's. But what do I do?

you are talking about the "terminal nut" right?
NGK typically have them screw on and off a threaded stud I think. So yours came with no nut? Drop by any auto parts store and ask for another set as yours must have been defective. Make up a story if you need to.

Yeah, the terminal nut. I tried to screw that off and the whole thing snapped off inside...

What a rip. I mean at shop price I got 4 for 20 bucks but still. Money doesn't grow on trees...

how about the wires? can you reuse them again or you cannot extract the piece of copper?
