Title: E30 M42 ICV/plumbing questions
Post by: longms on December 12, 2008, 07:10:55 PM
I am sure this has been covered before but I need to know where a couple of things mount and connect.

I need to know where the hose on top of the ICV connects and what all the mounting hardware mounts to (in the picture below)? Thanks for the help. This plumbing is the only thing holding back my car from starting right now.

If anyone has there intake assembly off for any reason and would be so gracious to take a picture of how the plumbing/piping is situated that would be awesome. I can't seem to figure out how it all goes under the intake.

Upper hose attaches to intake manifold, mounting bracket attaches to the bolt that mounts upper to lower manifold.

Please be sure to mount the IGV with the arrow pointing "Down".  It will run a lot better if you do this.  (Don't ask me how I know.)

Correct, the end with the smooth hose feeder part goes up (they suggest a hose clamp even) to the valve cover and the end with the ribbed feeder part goes down to the Medusa, or "the mess under the intake" :)

My IGV was connected the wrong way.  I was having problems with rough running after a warm start.  It is getting better after I reversed the direction of the IGV.  I still have a problem, but this helped.  (I don't understand why it would make a difference, but it does.)

Good looking out to you guys. About to fire up a 2 year project and trying to tie up the loose ends. Working at a snails pace sucks and it also doesnt help that I live in a different city than the car is in.

There is physically an arrow stamped on the housing of the ICV. They are saying to mount the ICV with the arrow pointing down.

Bump

Is this actually correct? My understanding is that the ICV arrow should be pointing with the flow going from the intake TO the manifold.

It says right in the manual that the arrow needs to point up.

Arrow points in direction of airflow.  That's towards the manifold side of the valve.  I've no idea if that is "down" or "up" since I can't see it on my M42 (even though I've r/rd it correctly lol).  But my M20's is in plain view, and that's how it is oriented.
