Title: calling all computer geeks
Post by: RED IS 91 on December 09, 2008, 06:54:05 PM
My son and I just built my family a new computer. My mother board is a nforce6m-a with a amd am2 athlon x2 5200+ dual core .
I installed windows xp 32 bit .Is it true that xp 32 won't detect more than 4 gigs of ram . I was going to install 8 gigs but if it won't use it then I won't.
What is the skinny???

I thought it would only recognize 3.5 GB.

+1
The official limit is 2GB, but you can edit the boot.ini file to allocate more memory to programs that are so enabled. Ultimately you will never see more than about 3.5GB

No matter what 32-bit windows OS it should only see anywhere around 3-3.5 gigs.

Your best off with a 64-bit OS whether its XP 64 or Vista 64 if you want it to see all your ram.

One thing with 64bit is you might wanna search for 64 bit drivers or if you have time install the 64bit OS and trial and error the drivers.
