Title: Ignition Coil Code
Post by: KenC on December 03, 2008, 02:33:21 AM
My motronic is throwing a 1271 code, which I found on the web to indicate a malfunctioning Ignition Coil #1.  I replaced the coil today, verified that it's sparking, and it's still throwing the code.  What gives?

Don't you have to clear the code? Or did you do that?

From the PelicanParts article (http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/Mult-Code_Reading/Mult-Code_Reading.htm):
Quote
Make sure that the last code (1000) has occurred, and then press down on the gas pedal for more than 10 seconds.  This should clear out the memory of the DME.   Repeat the fault code reading process, and the computer should generate code 1444, which means that there are no faults stored.

That reset doesnt seem to work... it just keeps throwing the code.  Can I just unplug the ecu for a bit?

you may be able to clear it by unplugging it, but usually you need a tool.
the holding gas pedal 10 seconds after to reset didnt work for me either.

Try unplugging the battery over night.
