Title: ECM swap question
Post by: bme30 on November 30, 2008, 07:47:51 AM
it was recently mentioned to me that i could swap out the ECM from a M44 and use it for my M42.  Because the M44 ECM is more advanced it can read and calculate the engine info faster therefore having a more efficiant M42 motor.

Has anyone heard of this or tried it?  I tried a search but no luck.

Thoughts?

No it doesn't work like that. You would also have to swap over the whole wiring harness to the engine and sensors. The M42 and M44 have very different engine management systems.

so it sounds like i might as well just swap over the entire m44 with harness and ecm.. only after my m42 goes.

thanks

yea m42 OBD-I, M44 OBD-II it would be a pain to swap the harness and i personaly dont think that it would acomplish much because OBD-II is a pain to tune and to get the best power out of bolt on parts your gona have to flash the ECU
