Title: So lets talk cheap turbo manifold solutions.

So I've seen cutting an M50 turbo manifold to fit, but all the ebay manifolds are more expensive than an OBX one for an m42.

So the question is how hard would it be to adapt a stock manifold for a turbo, or would it not work at all?

I think its much easier to just modify a M50 turbo manifold and they are not that expensive.

You know, funny thing is I just found the thread where he did that after I posted this thread lol.

I feel dumb.

But thats so awesome that that will work.

How's the quality on the 99 dollar units?

Good enough for 7 psi?

I don't have any experience with them. However, one issue is that these manifolds are made of stainless steel which is prone to cracking (esp. the welded areas) under prolong heat cycle.

I strongly recommend you to reinforce the welded areas to reduce chances of cracking.

Im using a M50 Manifold and a hybrid ebay turbo and I have no problems with them

I plan to boost my m42.. I don't know about you, but my stock m42 has more balls than any stock civic I've found.. Take the $500 turbo kit and adapt it to your bmw.... wanna dis on people's ideas and projects? go to r3v....

don't mind this guy, he's just bitter that he spent 3x the money on a 1.9l stroker and got 1/3 the power-add of a low-boost turbo setup. if he weren't so emotionally invested in the idea that what he did is "the right way" and anything else is "wrong" he'd start crying about how most of his performance comes from his weight-reduced wallet.

I don't have problems with putting a turbo on a 318is, I actually have one in the works. It just seems to me that no one wants to do it right, all they want is cheap, and no one wants to do the research, there is plenty of information on this site regarding turbo builds. You can actually build your own equal length turbo manifold for the price of taking an ebay manifold and modifying it. you can also adjust runner lengths to help spool the turbo at a lower rpm ex: longer runners for lower rpm. You can get nice used turbos on ebay and rebuild them, its not that complicated.Down pipe is even easier, get a piece of u-bend from summit, its cheap.

or 3x for a stroker motor?

there is something very wrong here, are we all so rich that we have saved up all the money we need for a very long time that we can go pissing away money we will never get back on mods which might break the rest of the car?,
How about taking your turbo or stroker money, pus all the future money for the cool-stuff we think we're going do, plus the money we are going to need to fix what's going to break,  or wear out and save it all up for just a little while, then march down to BMW and get a new 128 coupe with 230 hp and a factory warranty?

While I agree with you, there is something great about an old E30.
It's light, has little of the BS electronic crap (iDrive, countless other things) that just make things more complex. The E30 is nostalgic because it's from a time when BMW's were more simple. Besides, the second you drive a new car off the lot, you just flushed half of your money you saved up.

E-Bay, I only spent $450 on brand new m44 rotating assembly which included MaxSil pistons and sealed power rings
