Hi, i was reading an old mag abit back that had a pug 306gti-6 with a rotrex superchager on it that ran 400bhp, the guy had used big end and mains bearing shells from a deisel in the same engine range as the standard petrol ones wernt up to the job does any one know it it would be a good idea to use say m47 shells on a turbo/supercharged M42 build??
Or do we think thatthe standard ones would be ok?

Sorry What are you running again? will the desiel m47 shells fit the M42 crank with no mods in a standard m42 block?? if so then this seams like a good idea for not alot of expense. when you say about the oil do you mean thats the oil to use with them or just to use good quality oil? the pug guy was using somthing called purple racing oil supposuidly with a 400% stronger oil film than any other oil available.

one of the bmw diesel main shells is meant to use a 360 degree thrust bearing as well, this is preferable i think???

exactly for main bearings they have 360 degrees thrust bearing ,and rods bearings are stroger they has 3 komponent material and has notice sputter.

Diesel bearings might be stronger, after all diesel's have a lot more torque compared to bensin/gas/petrol (what ever the right word is ) engines.
-
diesel engines also don't rev as high...

in my turbo m42 i use disel bearings and i have more than 10 000 kilometers on 2,3 bar of boost and 8000++ rpm 9500 is max rpms who i so on the logs:) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=STdEMQz8PIA&feature=related
If you whant stronger engine diesel bearings are the answere.

Did you have to notch out your bearing caps, like the mm ones?

yes notch work only on rods if they don't have.
