Post by: Reicho318is on October 22, 2008, 01:43:07 AM
Hi everyone, ive just got my self a e36 318is and i want to almost completely over haul everything. Ive already had the suspension replaced bought M3 rims (and have a pair of rays volk rims coming.) Now im going to move onto the mechanices. And am just wondering what is the best exhaust system, cams, valves, valve springs, Extractors etc. And also if it would be worth supercharging? Unfortionatly im only an appertace carpenter so i dont get much money a week. So at the moment my budget is sort of tight.:( So if anyone has any suggestions please help.

Reicho,

It all depends on how much you want to spend, how long you want to take and what you want to acheive.

Alot of the stuff in our engines is good off the shelf.
If you want to buy new stuff to do up a performance engine be prepared to pay big bickies for it. We pay through the nose for stuff out here in Australia.  Buying bits form the states or europe is ok but the exchange rate will kill us now (especially with postage).

My advice is to work out what you want first and then reask your question.
You will get a ton of advice from people here and it's all useful.
Some of it though will be beyond your capabilities price wise or technically.

You also haven't said if you are doing the work yourself or paying someone else to do it. This will have a big impact on what you want to do.

I do know that ALS Performance in Sydney has a built up turbo M44 with wiring turbo and computer all set to go.  I think all you would need to buy would be some plumbing for an intercooler.  These guys do good work and have set a couple of records in the BMW club in Sydney for their "turboed track beasts".
