Title: idle issues
Post by: rake1 on June 07, 2006, 04:02:33 PM
I have a 1991 318is that has idle problems only when it is warm, and sporadically at that. When cold, it idles fine but after it has warmed up the engine will sometimes rev between 500 and 1800 rpms. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Try removing, testing and cleaning your ICV. (http://www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318isfaults.html#idlecontrolvalve)

Check all rubber vacuum hoses around the inlet manifold for cracks and leaks. (http://www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318isfaults.html#inletmanifoldleaks)

Thanks. The carb cleaner in the ICV seemed to work. It has reduced the swings significantly, anyway.
