I've had an erratic issue with the starter for the last year: The starter only makes a click noise when I turn the key. Upon the 5th or 6th attempt, it will fully engage and start the engine. Lately, it's not turning the engine at all and a jump start is only occasionally effective. I've been push starting it...what a PITA!
Anyway, I had the starter bench tested a few weeks ago at my local auto parts store and it aced the test. I also had the same guys wheel out their portable battery tester and it checks out as well.
The ground cable that runs from the engine mount to the frame is new.
What do you think I should check next?
Thanks!

Battery. Could be the starter solenoid is going out to. But also could be the battery. The parts guy or girl should of told you that. Regardless of the ground cables appearance. You could also trace it back to the Ignition switch on you column. Look at that when you get a chance. k

Thanks, good idea. What are the symptoms of a bad ignition switch? Occasionally when I hold the key in the start position, the starter will turn the engine.
