Title: coolant leak from thermostat housing

hey guys followed the diy from the site highly recommend it even a moron like me was able to do it lol

anyways got everything buttoned up but i'll be damned there is a leak at the lowest bolt of the thermostat housing.  any ideas on how to get rid of it?  i got a new gasket and everything on there but i didn't use too much gasket sealant because i didn't want it smearing on the inside.  do you guys think that might have caused my leak?  if so i can squirt more in there.

my bolts are all torqued down so im really at a loss on what else to do.  any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

You may have it all in the wrong order, I've done it before.  Head-thermostat-oring-gasket-housing.

what do you mean?  i put the thermostat in the head with the oring on it then but sealant on my housing stuck the gasket on the housing then put the housing with the gasket on the housing onto the housing location.  is that the wrong order?  can't figure out why that area is leaking

You put the O-ring in after the thermostat, right?  You really need to cram the o-ring down into the groove around the thermostat to get the housing to seat properly on the head.

no i just stuck the o ring on the thermostat before i placed the thermostat in its groove.  so i have to put the thermostat on without the o ring, then put the oring in the groove on the thermostat?  is that correct? also the thing is my o ring that came with the thermostat never sat very tight on the thermostat like the one in zoso's pics

Thermostat goes in the head first, then the O-ring on top of it.

crap i guess im taking it out this weekend.  now did you wedge your o ring onto between the head and the thermostat?

any trick?  do i need to wedge the o ring into the thermostat area?

You should replace gasket, sealant will not fix your problem. O-ring there is not for this function.

i did replace the gasket and o ring from the thermostat.  im guessing i prolly didn't put the o ring on right.  any tips on how to place it in the thermostat and housing?  do i wedge it in there? between the thermostat and head?

I'm not sure how much more clear I can be about this.  The thermostat goes into the head BEFORE the o-ring.

hmmm i thought thats what i did i'll go check it out again this weekend thanks for the help guys
