Title: Motor mounts
Post by: Boosted E30 on September 20, 2008, 12:03:07 AM
so i got my turbo m42 running good but the motor mounts are to weak to support all the weight of the turbo / manifold on the one side what other motor mounts from bmw fit that are stronger and wont collaps with out going to solid urethane bushing because thats going to cause to much vibration anyone know??

Go with E28  535 from like 1987,I just change those o mine and the car feels nice ,vibrates a bit more but for me it's OK and the engine doesn't move that much, mine was moving too much due to the extra torque

i made hockey-puck motor/tranny mounts.  ill get back to you guys how harsh it is in a few days, swaps almost done in the 84'.  i dont think they are bad though, def. softer than the IE t-arm bushes i just got.  so theyre not as harsh as poly, but stiffer than stock by far.

hockey pucks are stiff as rocks.  i had to remove the h-puck tranny monts and put back the stock ones to soften the ride a bit.  was unbelievably shakey at 2-3k rpms.  but seems better with softer tanny mounts.  still stiff though.

does'nt anyone make an aftermarket motor mount for the M42 - instead of having to use E28 or original M42 mounts again?

What style or type of mounts did the E30 M3 have?

ya they make urethane mounts but that will cause alot of vibration and as for m3 mounts i have no idea if they would fit or how much stiffer they are

ireland engineering makes m42 mounts don't they? go to their site, then E30 Parts, then the Drivetrain section.

Motor Mount - Urethane - e30 318 twin cam  -  $49.00 (you'll need two)

i ran the IE urethane engine & tranny mounts on my old 325iS and never regretted putting them in. have you actually used mounts like this before? it's not "shake the car to pieces" vibration like solid aluminum mounts... after a day the only thing i noticed was better takeoff from a stop.
