Title: 84'e30 m42 swap w/ spooled aspirations
Post by: vagrant_mugen on September 18, 2008, 11:08:30 AM
blew the HG in my 84 318(m10) and was tired of going slow.
was going to do a turbo m20, but this m42 kinda fell into my lap, and for $350, i had to get it.

so i have collected:

-m42  175k miles
 w/ complete engine harness/ecu
     -240 getrag
     -driveshaft
-87' 325i  3.76 LSD
   +rear s.frame, t-arms w/ disks

-battery cable to trunk from non m10 e30
-plastic bumper swap F+R from the 90' w/ front tin work
-m20 single-mass flywheel

So, ive put on the rear t-arm w/ disks awhile ago.  recently got the motor pulled from my car and the front end swapped.  was waiting on parts which arrived yestr/today.

got all new gaskets, seals, timing chain, sprockets, rails, and tensioner. and IE rear bushings for the sub and t-arms, along with a much needed wheel stud kit :D
total: $1100    (timing chain was why i wanted to go m20. too much $$$) but i kinda like that this motor is a mini m50, ya know??

oh, getting a 6 puck clutch in the mail soon, and a Holset hy-35 this weekend.  plans are for boost in a month or so.  ebay m50 header chopped, audi wastegate, Apexi AFC select w/ 440's and need to find someone to write me a chip for the ignition timing.
