Title: Odometer gear repair - need more info & link
Post by: Cobra Jet on September 17, 2008, 08:31:38 AM
I have searched on here using "odometer" as the search term and also reviewed all of the "How To" threads and still have not come across a tech thread that actually shows HOW to replace the odometer gears in the speedo cluster.

There are many "odometer" threads stating where to buy the odometer gears (and those that show pictures of the gear or assembly), but none of these threads actually show any cluster removal or list any steps of how to R&R the odometer gears.

Can someone please supply a good link or tech thread about this?

thx!

I don't know of any tech thread, but I can tell you from experience that you don't need it. The hardest part of the job is removing the cluster from the dash. There are about a dozen screws on the back of the cluster. Remove them all. The speedo comes right out. The gears are in a clear plastic case around the speedo assembly. There are a couple of small screws that hold the case cover on. Remove these. The gears are now accessible to replace. They slide on easily. Put some lightweight grease on the gears.  I'm sure once you get in there you will want to clean the dust out of the cluster. Put er back together and you're done.
