It's remarkable that the guys at MW find the e36's interior more appealing than the e30's. I honestly don't know what BMW was thinking with the ugly non-body color rocker panels and front fascia on the early e36s. They went from the refined and clean look of the e30 to the bland and downright unfinished look of the e36.

Honestly, the 318iS is a much better fit as the rebirth of the '02. Light weight, momentum cornering, and enough power to be fun.

awsome find! i like how the narrator said the climate control is "confusing" what a bunch of crap, i havent seen a car with a more simple design then the E30's.....and i have drive ALOT of cars. lets see you have heat, blower speed.....oh and where you want the air, via sliders, how much simpler can it get?
Also; 100ft braking distance from 60mph thats bitchin, just looked at the latest road and track issue and the Ferrari Enzo does it in 109ft :rolleyes:.

Totally agree. I know I'm biased as an owner, but they were really stretching to find any negatives in our car.

100' braking is totally sick! Throw some ATE power discs on it and steel braided cables and you could get spoiled really fast. I am amazed when I get into much more exotic and expensive cars such as my friend's Lotus Elise or his WRX STi and feel the mush in the pedal. I think in my head, "So you gonna brake any time soon?" The hard as brick modulation of the 318is brake pedal is fantastic! Thank you for this great post!

Thanks, the show looks identical to shows they do now, just without the stonewash jeans and Prince tennis racket.
I've raced on that drag strip they used and it hasn't changed at all in 19 years either.
It was good to see the car do the same things I do in mine, chirp second gear, stops real quick with just a slight chirp of the ABS and body roll isn't too shabby either.

I saw this recently on youtube. Indeed they were really making up "problems" with this car to avoid being seen as bias. That's the problem with this show, every car is average, whether its a Porsche or a Korean minivan. Can't there be a happy medium between Top Gear and this :rolleyes: The German automotive shows do it the best from what I've seen..
Motor Week's problems:
-Turn signal stalks too short. Are they out of their mind? Everyone knows where they are, why do they have to be visible? This avoids being susceptible to breaking under extreme "Ahh! I'm going to crash.." counter-steering. This happened to my friend, because his car had long stalks he literally chopped one in half. A PAIN to replace. If you just hit the corner, they will not break.
-Sparce gauges. What does that even mean :confused: Not enough info? Every car I've ever driven didn't have enough gauges. Unless it's a Ford GT or something, you, as an enthusiast, are always going to be forced to buy aftermarket stuff to satisfy that need.. what did they expect, one of these sitting on the dash

Only real problem with this car, the thing that I instantly noticed when I test-drove it and probably the only that that would bother you if it was the year 1991 and the car was brand new.. NO TILT WHEEL :(
