After a long while I've decided to make time and create this topic.
The story begins in the spring of 1997 when my grandfather bought this 316i E30 after seeing it parked in his area with a "For sale" note in the windscreen. He bought it for 7000$ when the car had 90.000km(+- a few kilometers). As a side note, my grandfather was also the owner of a E21 318 which was actually the car i grew up in and have done lots of trips as a child. All the trips. :D
The only extras on it were power steering, manual sunroof and central locking the rest bone stock: no foglights, steel rims, etc.
In 2000 my grandfather gave it as a Christmas present to my mom.
That's when i started nosing around and taking it apart bit by bit and putting it back together. Without destroying anything. :D
In 2002 when i got my drivers license my mom gave it to me, seeing how I had already grown fond of it.
And so begins the slow process of "making it mine".
Since then I've added:
- Hella smoked headlights
- Foglights
- MHW smoked tails
- Headlight washers
- Webasto Standheizung
- Winter package (heated mirrors, drivers door lock cyl. and windshield nozzels)
- M Technik II kit
- Rear disc brakes
- Front ventilated discs (remember it was a 316i, so no front ventilated discs like on the 318iS)
- Moved battery into the trunk
- Electric sunroof
- New electric windows
- Rear view mirror with map reading lights
- Sports seats
- OBC II
- E36 OBC IV functional (except tank)
- A/C
- Cruise control
- M Technik II steering wheel
- Rear sun rollo
- Backseat with armrest and headrests
- OEM electric antenna (I love it!)
- OEM tweeters
- Checkcontrol functional (except MotorOl)
The current suspension setup is Koni SP 2s + H&R 19.03 and 19.01
I'm going to add ABS with the ix double brake pump in a short while, I just finished installing the front ABS struts, I'll install the rest of the system when more time will be available as well as the heated seats that have been resting under my bed for a year.
The interior needs to be reupholstered (thinking indigo leather like the door cards) as well but it's not a priority right now.
Since i went turbo the main priority is to work out all the software bugs.
The pictures speak for themselves. Some of them are from 2003 so are pretty crappy. Sorry. They are too many to post so I've gathered them all here: http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc92/184S1/m42club/
Enjoy! :)

Damn bro that car has come along way! Looks amazing! One question, why in the world do you still have the stock deck hanging out in your storage area?
-
very nice car. I see the wheels are 5-lug, did you upgrade that too?
-
The storage area is occupied by the e36 obc. :)
I didn't do a 5 lug conversion, although I'm considering it. I used some adapters.
I think i should really drop the rear by half an inch. Right now i have the thickest rubber pads, 10mm. I'll take these out and put in some 5mm ones and see what's the change. :)
-
Awesome job. Can I send you mine to work on?
-
I only have enough patience to work on my own. :D

Lucky! My pile of new parts is always growing faster than i put them in, and i know it should be the other way around
-
Well, we must always remember that even though some of us wouldn't give these cars up for anything, we shouldn't be blinded by them and be tricked into spending most of our time tinkering passing out on other important matters. I'm often in this situation. :D
-
Just ordered the Haltech e6x. Can't wait for it to arrive. :)
-
Meanwhile...Sorry for the crappy photo, bad lighting. Recaro Idealsitz C in need of upholstery.
-
What are those in the bottom bolsters?
-
Those are the controls for the heating, the inflatable/deflatable sides and i don't know yet what the other buttons do.

funny buttons...
( I don't see the turbo part in this story:D)
beautiful car!;)

wow, where did you find them??
-
On an E34. :D I have the e30 rails, too.
-
Another set of shoes. 15'' BBS RS. :)
-
Wow, This car looks great! I wana see some vid's of that turbo you got on there. Oh and the only thing, (And this is just prefence) Is that I like black door handles/ trim.... but It looks good non the less!
-
As soon as i get her up and running again i'll shoot some vids.
I'll think about the black handles.
-
MMmmm, RS'
Any plans to widen them?
-
Due to the lack of funds, for the moment no. But it's a worthy upgrade. Maybe i'll widen them to 8J or 9J. I'll figure it out exactly when I'll have some more cash. :)
-
Real nice project Vladi, I can't wait to see the video.
-
amazing ride. did u rebuild the motor? did u just use a thicker HG or did u get new pistons?
-
The engine is bone stock. :) I just changed all the gaskets and o-rings/sealing rings before this. Because i don't beat the living crap out of it on a daily basis i decided for the moment it's ok. I was going to buy pistons but all the funds are currently routed towards rebuilding the rear...

Total mayhem. :D
-
yea mayhem hehehe

love the car
-
Im LOVING the rear heated purple rotors! Can not wait for more updates. Nice to meet you and great ride. That manifold is a little different than my m42. Is that a m42 or something else?
-
the engine is taken out from a 94 e36 318is as i remember. and one of the diffrences between the e30 m42 and e36 m42 is the intake mainfold ;)
-
manifold, knock sensor, pS resovoir, valve cover breather outlet, motormounts.
other wise identical i believe
-
Car is again up and running, finished asembly three days ago. The adjustment of the current konis doesn't work anymore so went back to Ground Control. :)
I'll take some pics these days.
-
I didn't get to take more pics because i started installing the haltech e6x.
Hopefully it will be ready in a few days. In about two weeks i'm expecting the mls gasket and arp to arrive.
But meanwhile i ordered the lighted shift knob. :D
-
looks like fun :) too me those wires look like hell, but im sure you know what you're doin!
-
Fortunately, yes. :)
Well, Since last night I've got fuel, for a moment i had spark, too. Still have to fiddle with the haltech settings a bit.
-
After lots of headaches and a lot of wasted time, the car finally started last week. Made some adjustments last night, still have to work some bugs out and configure the boost solenoid, launch control/antilag after the software will be completely done.
-
Just want to say, you've got one of my favorite E30's around. ...who knows if it's because it looks similar to mine? lol
-
Thanks! :) You've got real nice wheels, btw. :D
-
Since last night the car is officially back on the streets. More updates and pics soon. :D
-
crazy ^^
-
Finally got around to doing some more work on it. Sorted the wiring inferno once and for all and also ran the ABS wires. Now i only need to swap the rear subframe and install the ABS pump and change the master cylinder. :D
Decided to repaint all the black trim to bring it back to life after being in the sun for 20 years.
Dismantled the wheels (two sets are mine and the other is a friends). There was also a friend with a fourth set but he missed the photoshoot. :D Going to chrome the lips next week.
I'm still trying to decide what color to paint the basketweaves...
My car is Sterling Silber and the other are Lach Silber and Diamant Schwartz.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
-
I love it man...absolutely love it. What are you doing with all the bbs rims? Refinishing all of them? Ill take a set :)
-
Yes, i'm refurbishing them all. One set on the car with good summer tires for daily drives and maybe the other one with slicks. :)
-
BBS Goodness...:D Tomorrow I'm throwing the rubbers on them. New pics with the on the car soon.
-
Nice, those look awesome
-
Baby's got brand new shoes. :D
-
A few recent pics. :)
-
Really like how the car turned out. The wheels/ stance are spot on.
4dr e30's with the MT2 kit look so clean.... wow!
-
Thanks! I just lowered the rear by half an inch. The rear was just too high...:D
-
Awesome.
What wheels are you mounting for the winter? I assume you're not leaving the RS' on there. What model are they BTW?
-
Nooo, I think I'll take the RS in my room for the winter! :D
For winter I've got stock 14 Nogarosilber basketweaves.
I've dyno'ed the car on friday night.
I'll post the results from home, I'm at the office now.
-
Just in case anyone was wondering...those are WHP. Engine HP is rated around 260HP.
-
Prepairing a major drop...:D
-
Changed the springs yesterday. To my surprise the car sits at almost the same height. Will do some exact measurements and pics today to compare.
-
Nice to see this car is up and running again. What boost are you running and any specs on the turbo?
Congrats on getting it going, hope mine does this year!
-
Due to lack of time I didn't get to post the updates. Because of the abundance of snow the car has been sleeping in the fresh and new aquired garage for last month or so. I hope I'll get to it this weekend. Just bought some 17' Compomotive wheels. :)
Right now I'm running 0.6bar. :)
Cheers!
-
Love the ride and good call on gettin bigger wheels
-
Bought some Compomotive MO1780, I'll try to get some decent photos soon + I've got a recent addition, an E30 325i Baur. :D
-
wow nice figures for so low boost. also wheels sound good ;) can't wait for more updates.
-
Fresh. :D
-

Awesome. Please please please post video's of induction noise when you get her up and running!!!
-
Sure will! :D
