Title: Poly Engine and Tranny Mounts
Post by: EN318isPDX on August 18, 2008, 01:05:26 PM
OK I'm gonna order both sets for the M42 from IE and was wondering who else makes poly bushings for motor and tranny. I've checked turner and pelican and they both dont have any.

35 each for trannys = $70
49 each for motor   = $99
(taken from IE's website)

169 total. I already have poly rear subframe and trailing arm bushings. Need steering and rear diff next :)

IE is it. Not much demand. They go for $50 on e-bay.

50 dollars each on ebay? no demand? hmm they are similar price to stockers

I couldn't find any poly M42 bushings on ebay. I found AKG have racing tranny mounts for 325e for 60 for a set.

Let us know how they are. I was going to get a set but I've heard horror stories of ie's engine mounts melting even with the heat sheilds  on.  I've also read on bfc about them shearing in half after a few thousand miles. It seems kinda strange that they dont cost that much only $99 all other poly engine mounts like uuc and others seem to be well over 100 so why are these so cheap i wonder?

Any updates on your IE mounts?  I'm going to be under the car refreshing my shifter and I thought I might as well replace the tranny mounts.  I've heard you can get some from Ireland Engineering, AKG, or Bimmerworld.com.  Not sure which ones apply though since most sites only list for 325i and 325e.

Also interested in an update here. I'm pulling my motor and need new mounts as it is. Wanna get the tranny ones while I'm in there too.

Sorry I had a stand still with the motor mounts. They showed up and look great! Feel amazing, they are metal reinforced so i think they are gonna rock. Only reason they arn't on yet is because i blew my diff so i am in the processing of replacing or rebuilding my LSD.. Not sure what im gonna do yet.

Oh well that sucks. Sorry to hear about the diff. But if you want I have two 4.10lsd's and I'm only going to use one of them haha. Theyre both still intact and work great. So if you want I'd sell one of them too you.

But good to hear they look good and are metal reinforced. Which tranny mounts did you get from them?

I believe they are 75a, they are the only poly tranny bushings that IE sell i believe.

I am finally getting around to getting them in tonight! I had to buy a cherry picker in order to do the install of the engine mounts. I will take pictures of the engine mounts before and after.. the tranny mounts are already in but ill snap a pic of them too.

I found out its a bad idea to only install the tranny ones because it caused my old motor mounts to fail instantly! I'll post an update later tonight after im done with the install.

Sweet. I ordered some this past weekend, so they're on their way.  Expensive shipping though.  Are they actually in Ireland?

Nope IE is from cali, it cost me next to nothing to ship them but i live just up north so it was 1 day and only cost me ~10 dollars. I have them installed and will post up the pictures and my write up later tonight after i get off work.

So far my opinion of them is.. STIFF! Do not recommend for anyone who wants to drive a quiet car. I enjoy feeling the vibrations of my motor. I feel more in tune with it.

Took my pics in the dark so they are crap. Hopefully i can get better pics of the finished product today when its more light out! Ill post a low quality teaser here

Look identical to mine, except I don't have poly tranny bushings too. I have UUC HD tranny bushings with the metal reinforcement plates.

And I couldn't agree more; I love the vibrations..definitely feel more in tune.
