Title: rattling sound coming from engine
Post by: ob_318is on August 17, 2008, 09:23:31 PM
Hi, I have not been fully introduced but will get to that later. I am having a little problem, listen to the attached audio file, the rattling noise is coming from my engine. I am not sure what the case is but can someone give me a diagnostic from listening to the sound.

I am thinking it is the timing chain, and if so does replacing the tensioner, stop this noise?

Damn... I don't know what it is but it definitely sounds like you're on track.  I'm just glad mine's never made that noise.  I don't think I'd want to be anywhere near it revving!

Speaking on being near it, when I approach a cross walk...people are running out of the way like I am about to hit them, and I am clearly way too far from them. Just trying to slow down people...damn !!

But you think its the chain tensioner that needs changing... I might give it a shot, just need to be certain.

mine actually just started making this noise more freq its only when its started for the first time each day. If you do the tensioner let us know if that helps I was thinking of doing mine as well.

I did my tensioner the other day.  It took maybe 5 minutes from up top.  I didn't decrompress first but my chain does not make any noises.  I would say you'd want to do the pre-decompression routine on the tensioner before you put it in, just be careful that it doesn't pop out into pieces.  There's threads on it...
Title: NO START after chain tensioner replacement

So I decided to replace chain tensioner, in which I did. After everything was back together I went to start the car to let idle, NO START. This is really weird because I did not think replacing the tensioner can cause the car not to start.

Well I am in need of help. Let me know of possible causes....

P.S. I did run a ignition system test and I have spark.
