i was driveing down the road and went to get on it and i hit about 4 grand and it acted like it hit the rev limit so i shifted and it did it another time it did it all night it acted like when i put the pedal to the floor is when it did it. it was kinda like a rev limit but it didnt it just wouldnt go higher and it has never had that prob befor thanks for any info

So the car will actually rev past 4K if you aren't at wide open throttle? I had a similar issue, but it was just the way the tach was reading, the previous owner of my car had swapped to a 325i gauge cluster but didn't swap over the coding plug from the 318is cluster, so it only scaled to 4.5K. Your issue sounds different, in say 2nd gear when it hits the brick wall of 4K how fast are you going?

it acts like its not getting any gas and sputters and just wont go could it be the fuel pump because my fuel pump has been whining for some time i have the fuel filter ordered its a beck arnley is that a good brand??

Ya beck is a standard brand. I would highly recommend that you replace your fuel pump asap with a Bosch preferably. Also fuel injectors will help your gas mileage and power drastically.

do you mean stock inj??

The stuff about the injectors he was talking about is probably in reference to using mustang injectors. They have a 4-pintle tip and give better fuel atomization, to say they help power and mileage drastically might be pushing it. Guys claim better mileage and a slight increase in power but nothing amazing, unless your stock injectors are clogged all to hell.

I am having similar if not exact same problems. Engine cuts out between 3-4000 RPMs, not on WOT just in acceleration. All speeds, all gears. I pulled out a code 1221 for O2 sensor, changed it, but still have the problem. The old o2 sensor actually was pretty white, so I am in a lean condition. I am thinking vacuum leak or fuel pump/filter. Anyone have any other ideas? Looks like this is a common problem with many different solutions. Hopefully we can all get it solved! Thanks!

Every M42 has this issue.. Search Mess under intake and do fuel filter fuel pump if that doesnt solve it.
