Is that little temperature thing the OBC?
If so is it needed? Does it do anything special at all?
I ask this because my screen is cracked, plus it freaks out when I push a button. I read other threads on the "button freak out" but it wouldn't do me any good because nothing shows up on the right half...
Should I replace it? Do you guys actually use the features?

I use it for the time... and sometimes i check the outside temp.. see why i wish i had AC lol... 92*F..... it reads the same temp as that those giant signs/bank signs say

yeah from time to time mine freaks out, and the temp guage is f'ed in the a'hole. the temp suddenly drops and the gong sounds even though its 20 C outside (80 F for you southerners). it likes to do this randomly. can i just replace the unit?
-
could just replace the temp probe...it sounds like it might be shorting out. I think some guy over at BF.c or RV3 is making them for less then $20.00

So I can tear the OBC out then...
Is it connected to the ECU at all? Will the ECU miss it, or screw up without it??
I am not gonna pay to replace this little unit. I don't think I'd use it that much, if at all.

Has nothing to do with the ECU or any other engine function....

Mine is pulling a complete freak out constantly. I wish I had it working so I could use the time, but I can't decide if I want to bother replacing it when I change out the dash.
