I believe i read somewhere that BMW developed basically the Bosch double platinum for the M42.

A new spark plug developed by BMW is used to complete the new M1.7 engine management system. The new spark plug features a 14mm thread, a three-arm "platform" electrode and requires no adjustment. The platform electrode provides a large conductive area which maintains a constant air gap and a uniform flame front during the spark plug's service life.

I have tried NGK Idridium, denso iridium and BRISK Premium LGS. The Brisk plugs are the best but their lifespan is rather short.

IMHO, NGK or denso ones will be good enough. to get slightly better low end torque, you can side gap the plug a little.

Denso Iridium IK20's....Will never use anything else. Have tried the Bosch Plat's and they don't compare to Iridiums...Thousands of miles and never a problem.

I run Bosch Platinum+4. The 4 tip platinums. The car runs a lot better. Partly because when I bought the car, I changed the plugs. It had 3 regular Autolites and 1 Motorcraft Platinum.......

I use Pulstar plugs. They run about $25 for one and let me tell you they are a lifetime investment. Best plug I have ever owned. Check out their website at http://www.pulstarplug.com. You will be impressed. I noticed a difference after the first gas tank. My car just felt snappier. Seriously check out their website.

Oh pulstar. After I checked out their website, I have to say I am rather skeptical about it though. They made a terrible claim on ignition velocity. The speed the flame spreads does not improve power at all! In order to obtain peak combustion pressure, ECUs basically advance the ignition timing. If the flame spreads much faster than normal, the ECU will have to retard the timing to prevent knocking.

Btw, I just bought a set of Bosch Platinum Iridium Fusion plugs and I have to say they are even better than the NGKs.

I also have the NGK's.

I'm curious though, do the original BOSCH plugs still exist for pruchase (the ones mentioned in the quote):

If so, what is the part #?  Where these plugs put into the M42 when it was built new?  If those plugs did come in the M42, does anyone have any experience with them?

Go NGK Standard or Platnum with out a doubt.
Bosch is ok but if you use them i recomend going with a standard one prong, correct gapping is important. I used to Bosch iriduim fusions with 4 prong and had them in for about 4 months and they started to miss fire and when i pulled them there was oil deposit and signs of predetination. I came to the conclusion they were just too hot and it was dumb to put them in. Bimmers need to stay with just standard / platinum plugs nothing to hot. use only NGK or Bosch
