Just curious to see what rims everyone has chosen for their M42... :)
Also, what rim size is preferred on an E30?
Do most stick w/ the stock 14/15" or go larger? I have looked at quite a few different rim styles, but still not sure if I should chose a stock size rim or bump up to a 16"... which would be better? I'm thinking that if going up to a 16", there's more cost for the actual rims & then the cost of 16" tires as well...
-
I'm going with 15" when I get some for good tire prices and performance. 16" is the largest I'd say on an e30 for visual style, but everyone is different.

I love em.
I think they are Torque Development rims, but I can't find them on their website.
I also can't upload photos to the website to show you.

Rims I plan on purchasing are 16x7 because you get better tire choices.

I am running a 17" BBS RX wheel, with 215/40/17 tires. I will snap a picture in a few.
I really like the euro 15 basket-weaves, otherwise I would suggest a 16" wheel I think, although I love how mine look.
-
Dang, I sure like the way the Rota RB look....
I wish I could pick some up used though.

-
I'm going with 18X8.5's M6 replicas.

I ordered them a month ago and I am still waiting on them......grrrr
As for tires, I'm going with Michelin Pilot Sport Ps2's. Either 235/40/18 or 245/40/18.

Borbet 15x7.5 hubcentric, Offset 25 ( I think ). These are the the sharpest looking rims but they are cheap and easy to clean. I put the roundel on the caps.

Oh dear lord:eek:
That looks amazing! I plan on buying some 15" RS's from a guy on e30tech and putting the 3" lips on them from BFI. But damn you just sold it for me even though you have 17" the silver/polished looks great on the DSM.
I'm loving all the DiamondSchwarz Metallic cars in this thread! BOOYA.

Old school BBS RDs. So easy to clean and still German made BBS :)

Nice choice! I've got those too and love 'em.
-
Borbet Type T 16x7 or 7.5 dont remember which
205x50x16 Fuzion HRi's (came from Fulda Extremo's or whatever, they were better, except for price and snow performance, obviously)
1.5" drop up front and 1.0" in the back
Does anyone have rubbing issues with 215's up front, or back for that matter?

Thats a clean looking car. What suspension do you have on it?
-
thanks
I have vogtland springs, Billy sports, Cabby front and M3 rear sway bars, powerflex offset CABs. New bushings and mounts. Just today I replaced the brake rotors, brake pads, fluid and front brake lines (OEM) today so I'm getting closer to the goal.
Still on the radar is:
e36 steering rack, tint, amp and sub, refinish wheels.
And there are always other things to mess with...
-
How do you like those sways Nomad?
Do you autoX or anything?
-
when i had time and money i autocrossed a Miata i had before the E30. I then bought the E30 to have in its place (to put a baby seat in the rear) so i've been building it for autocross with the hope i'll be able to get back into it. I just have no time anymore and with this economy I don't have the money.
Having said that, yes, I like the sways. It's stiffer in the rear but without a tight alignment yet I have push earlier than I prefer in the front. It corners flat though. The new wheels are heavier than the stock baskets and it is certainly felt, but they do give more grip. The rear will step out in the wet and if i really pound/fling it in tight corners but the car is certainly underpowered. I'd like more power (who doesn't) but I've always been a momentum/handling guy. I'm not sold on the E30 after having been in a well prepped Miata but it's getting closer than it was before.
i think a tighter steering ratio, more negative camber and a lighter wheel/tire combo will really help it out. That's just the autocrosser talking. For now though, It's good enough for a tight feeling daily driver.
-
Thats awesome.
I was looking to upgrade my sways (as I'm sure you can see from my signature) but I didn't want to go crazy.
Good info, thanks alot!

Sweet rims Vladi, just thinking you going to be running them on adapters????
My Mesh are now officially about to be taken apart. Reversed and polished up. Many hours ahead :( The hard work will be worth it though with the lip size ill be gaining :)
I think they will look much better on the E30 than they would have on the other car which they were originally bought for.... other plans for that now though :)

Imho, 16" rims are perfect for e30. Big enough that they look modern, but not so big they look inappropriate.

i think it would serious cool when 1: got decent sized brakes... and 2: the car is lowered 2cm (not more due to bad italian roads)
