So, I did some wrecking-yard pillaging this morning. I pulled a 13 button OBC with its harness and turn stalk, a fancier overhead check panel, some trim bits and some door weather seals. My next trip will be to nab some cruise control parts (I bet I can get a 325 rig to work, although everyone seems to use E36 4-banger units), non-air bag wiper stalk, more weather seals, and an electric sunroof motor system (with the headliner).
In a nut shell, my retrofitting plans are as follows:
- Install 13 button OBC
* Need M42 Coding plug...if anyone has one can I borrow it to copy the EPROM's values & make one for $2 instead of $62?
* Need to fix back light plate. It can be done with some Radio Shack bulbs for under $3, rather than dropping $30+ on a new one. Heck, anyone have a spare lol?
- Install overhead check panel
* I HEAR that this is next to impossible due to our cars not having the right harness (grr). Based upon my trying to remove the harness from the car with the panel, I would agree. Swapping this harness ain't feasible unless you want to hack up everything. Maybe I will put it in anyway unplugged...it is just as useless as the stocker lol.
* I have not looked at the 318iS check panel harness...is it completely different?
- Cruise Control
* I need to nab the computer, actuator, throttle bits, and harnesses still.
* I plan to fab up stuff as necessary to fit it as opposed to dropping $$ on E36 parts that fit a little easier. Anyone have a price estimate for buying needed parts?
- Electric Sunroof
* I will be snatching up the parts for this (motor, buttons and head liner) tomorrow hopefully.
* This will be coordinated with the A-pillar trim replacement and door weather seal replacement.
* Anyone have any pointers? Do I need to install any extra fuses or relays? As far as I can tell, there is nothing else I need to do besides grab the one little harness diagrammed on realoem.
And of course, I will do my best to take pics and make tutorials of this stull over the next few weeks. I start my new job tomorrow, and I am up way too late as it is. Yarg, I hope I actually have time lol!
