I managed to get my hands on a BRAND NEW Super sprint exhaust system for my 318is... which we all know is out of production and requires a special order for them to make it... well i was one of the lucky 25 to get one...
so here she is...

Looks good but it sticks out a lot more then mine, do you have the 2 piece version?
-
its the 2 peice.. and i fiddled around with how far out it stuck and i decided on this length i like it more because it sticks out just far enough that you can read the Super sprint when standing over the bumper slightly... plus i think it looks more OEM... but its all personal prefrance right
-
How were you lucky enough to obtain this fine unit, and from where did you purchase it?
I agree that it sticks out just the "right" amount, ya hey.
-
well you see these units are no longer in production / available. but supersprint will do a custom run if they get an order of like 20+... and i was one of the 23 or so people who was in that order. and i purchased it from turner motorsports

I have the same exhaust. I think it looks great and is well made.
However, it is the quietest exhaust I have heard. Sounds quieter than the original IMO.
That might or might not be a bad thing.
-
...yesterday, they told me they were out of stock.
-
How much are they charging for the unit when they do a custom batch? I presently have a 1-piece that is about 7 years old and may need replacement someday. Back when I got it, I paid US$420, which is probably less than I would have spent on 4 crappy ANSA mufflers over the same time period!
How well do the 2-piece units fit together? How well do they seal? Exhaust leaks are annoying!
-
Sounds like my stock exhaust.:)
Im planning to use Simons Sportsystem.

yup... it was a special order... and it costs the same amount as shown on their page... but you need at least 20 other people to commit to it before they do a custom run....
and yes the exhaust is really quiet but i love it i think it sounds super refined compared to the stock and i couldnt be happier

LIKE A GLOVE... hahahah its perfect with a muffler that is that quiet its easy to notice a leak and with mine ive never noticed a leak

The Simons Sportsystem looks intriguing. I can't figure out the exact country of origin, or how I might go about ordering from them. There's not a whole lot of English content in their website.

Simons factory is located in Sweden.:D

Did you guys try bmpdesign, i know they had them, and i still see it on their online store for the 318is.

Alright, so you must be in Sweden too. I was wondering where on God's green earth Tallinn was!
Assuming Simons ships to the U.S. of A., I would imagine it would be cost prohibitive to pursue. I don't see an English order link anyway. Dang.
-
...they are out of stock as well. Said they will get a batch of 10 in about 6 weeks.

I have a Simons system on my -90 318is, It sounds pretty much like the stock exhaust, just a little more noise and bass to it. Im not amazed, but not dissapointed either.

Any change in performance?
I think that the cat. is the most restrictive part of the stock exhaust.
Im pretty sure that im going to remove the cat. , but i hate raspy sound.
It so hard to get m42 to sound right.:(
-
I think I feel a lil' difference after 3k rpm, nothing else. haven't been on a dyno after I installed the Simons system so I really can't tell you any numbers.

So I called Turnermotorsport and asked about the SS system. They said that they could just order one from SS. When asked about the minimum quantity, they kinda avoided it and just said that I could have one in 4-6 weeks since they would special order it from Italy. Are they giving me the run-around? Turner used to be really good with customer service...has that changed over the years?
EDIT:
I called BMP design and asked. They were straightforward about it and said that SS usually won't do it for under 10 units, and that they order 10 units about once a year for their own stock. They also said that they can usually get SS to do it for 5 orders if they have been placed by customers. I am #3 now lol. So...2 more people wanna call BMP & order? They said they would ship it for free, and Turner wanted $68 for shipping. Same price at BMP as Turner ($524). BMP does one SS special order run per year, and the wait will be roughly 3 months from now (today being Sept 18) according to the sales guy. They took my info, but won't charge me until they have enough orders to get it all produced.
-
I put an order in with BMPdesign.com today. There was no out-of-stock or special order message, so I'm guessing it's good to go.
EDIT: they sent me an email: out of stock, expected 4-5 weeks for delivery. (10/6/08)
scratch that: they called me and said I was the 4th person to place an order, still won't be available for 2-3 months. Jonathan at BMP design is who I talked to. He told me that the orders for these get pushed behind orders for newer cars which is why they take so long. I asked him if they could get produced faster if more people put in an order, he said that hasn't worked in the past. He told me he would try to get an exact date from them and let me know.
-
So I ordered a supersprint exhaust in Oct and it's finally due up for delivery. I bought mine from BMPdesign.com and they are getting their order from Super Sprint in Italy sometime next week (thats assuming they don't bump back the date again...)
But I asked today and they told me they will have around 5 extra ordered - If somebody wants one they need to call them really soon so they can have them shipped over with the rest that are already pre-ordered. They told me that I should expect to have mine in my hands in about 3 weeks. So if you want one you should call them, asap.
-
How much are they?

I'm paying $525 shipped.

Wow, you guys really pay out for your exhausts!
I came to the conclusion that custom cheapie is best. My exhaust (presently) has cost me £17 ($23ish due to exchange rate) for the pipe, and some time with the exhaust off cutting and welding (borrowed a mates welder, so factor in £10.99 for the gas).
I've now bought a welder - £50, about $70, got myself a cherry bomb - £23, about $30 and I'll be fitting the bomb soon. Other mod (UK 318iS's have no cat, just 2 mix-boxes) is one mid box removed. Stock midboxes combined with backbox is definitely restrictive.

How much are good quality aftermarket exhausts in the UK, for a 318is?
-
I don't think they do them tbh, either custom made jobbies or from Germany. At least, I don't know of anyone with a proper aftermarket one that wasn't custom.
(thinking back, it was a slightly irrelevant comment, but I'm a cheap-skate!)
