Title: Idle drops and engine dies...
Post by: dgdavidson on June 26, 2008, 07:56:12 PM
Haven't completely figured out the pattern yet but the engine has recently started to stall. It idles just fine but will die and then starts right up and runs fine after that. The check engine light comes on as this is happening  but then goes out.

Stomp test shows 1271 and the Peake Tool shows 37. Can't find either of these codes.

Car has COP conversion and the 93 Mark D chip and the ICV has been cleaned.

I believe 1271 is for ignition coil 1.  Not sure if that could actually cause the car to die, but just run / idle rough.  FWIW.

Thanks, yeah I agree don't think a coil would make the thing die. Strange.

a bad coil could make the car die if the rest of the cylinders arn't running properly in the first place.

Though your problem sounds more of a crank/cam sensor issue, perhaps a frayed cord?

Thanks Mike,

I look into that too.
