Do you guys honestly think it is worth it to powdercoat a set of bottlecaps that are worth like $100? Just prep them well and make sure they are clean and put a couple coats of clear and it should last quite a while, right?

what color are the steel rims?  save the black paint for non-oem wheels.

I used lacquer (spelling?) silver and clear on my Mille Miglia wheels after I curbed one (little JB weld in the gouges first- "shhh, don't tell!").  Then my son curbed another (no gouges this time) and I was able to respray and blend the gnarled portion without any obvious probs.

Check out http://www.Wheel-whores.com. There was a guide on there a few weeks back on how to paint steel rims.

Sanding is over-rated.  I don't recommend it ;)  Just spray it on and hope for the best.

Aaah haha I was going to recommend slathering them in JASCO paint remover first!  That stuff will eat your face off, as well as paint on wheels.  Oh well, I am sure the black paint will stick just fine.
