Title: Need urgent help... My summer vacation depends on this.. M42-M44 here we go..
Post by: Isbjörn on June 08, 2008, 06:19:44 PM
Hello.
I have a 1992 318is with a pretty much used up engine (leaks everywhere, rattles and is in general bad shape) the problem is this engine is in my summer car, wich I have spent 5 years on doing up (yeah I know.. skipped the most important part..) and now I wanted to to a engine change to get a better engine in.

Pulled the M44 from the 1996/1997 318is, and tonight pulled the M42 engine. I was thinking of just using the long block, I.e. M42 loom, ecu, inlet manifold etc.

I see the camshafs sensor and crank sensor is different.. what to do? Is this hopeless?

Hope someone can seriously help..

Should be the same sensors, but different locations. Maybe you can splice the wires to the old sensor wires to give you the proper length and connectors?

Other people have swapped the M44 in place of the M42. Do a search for "M44 swap".
