Title: What causes OBC LCD "bleeding" ?
Post by: Cobra Jet on May 28, 2008, 11:29:31 PM
Ok, the original 6 button OBC in my 318ic was replaced by bmwpower because the LCD screen had the common "bleeding" where the screen is overcome by an LCD BLOB and the characters are no longer legible.

Now, over the last 2 days, the "new" used 6 button OBC is now doing the same thing as the original, it's starting to "bleed" again where the LCD BLOB is taking over the screen...  This 2nd OBC has been in the vehicle and functioning flawlessly for nearly 2 months and now all of the sudden it's crapping out...

What the heck causes this?

I have not touched the screen, have not pressed on it, have not done anything.  The only difference over the last 2 days is the outside air temps have jumped up in the upper to mid 80's and low 90's...  Does such an occurance have anything to do w/ outside air temps or is this purely coincidental?

I will eventually convert it over to the (13) button OBC - but for now, I guess I just have to look at another broken OBC screen...

???

Ew. I'm glad mine doesn't do that. Mine just has seizures, but those can be well solved with a nice smack.

Really annoying!

I installed a near new OBC panel and is started doing this too!

Too an old one apart to see if I could replace just the LCD strip - I think you can but it's pretty fiddly/fragile.

Heat is what causes it. Its a factory defect. happens to 13buttons as well. heat overcomes the screen and break ink "paks" and leak it onto LCD screen

What you don't realize is that probably 75% of the e30's on this board and on others are pieces of crap. Mine for example is a total piece of crap. I think it's the commrodory of crap that brings us all together.
