I'm happy to inform all that my 318i is back on the road. Back in Dec, my girlfriend informs me that my 318i died. I was 11 time zones away so members of the SF Bay area E30 email group came to my girlfriends rescue. They recommended a shop to have the car towed to, German auto sport in Berkeley. The diagnosis was the engine was terminal, (later found out the timing chain tensioner failed and snapped the timing chain). Replace your timing chain tensioner every 40K!!! That's my public service annoucement!!! A member of the Bay area E30 email group sold me a M42 motor from his wrecked 91 318is at a great price, thanks Deni. I told the shop to install a new timing chain, new oil pump, water pump, new hoses under the intake manifold, and lets put in a new clutch since it had the original clutch that came with the car (129K on it). The 318i runs great, it still has some slight oil leaks that the shop is trying to figure out but they are covering it since it's under their warranty.
One slight problem, the heater/defrost blows cold while it's on the freeway but once I exit the freeway and slow down, it blows hot, WTF,O??? Any ideas of the problem, (thermostat, air in the cooling system, etc...)
