Title: Replacing Crank Bolt?
Post by: peerless on May 03, 2008, 03:03:12 AM
Is anyone out there replacing the crank bolt when they remove it for timing cover service/rebuilds?

Personally I would have never thought about it being a stretch bolt but according to the Bentley E36 3 series manual it is. Pg 117-6.

Quote
Crankshaft bolt. M16 stretch bolt. (Always Replace) Torque to 244 ft-lbs.

The bolt itself only appears to be around $10. Might just replace them on the 2 M42's I am building right now.

Anyone else aware of this?

I am. It says it in the haynes manual as well.
