i've been waiting this all summer long
the time has come when working on the car doesn't mean frozen bloody fingers and headaches
i'll be spending the week at my parents place in the country side.
there is no internet over there so i'll need to gather all the info before i leave on monday morning.
if you guys want to help me out gathering all i need it'll be much appreciated
this is what a will do:
-complete COP conversion with haledj's kit and M54 coils. new spark plugs
-drop lower pan, check for bolts
-coolant drain and change
-few vacuum hoses restoration
-maybe a TB heater plate delete
-clean-up
-powersteering block off/delete
suggestions on cheap things i could do?? now that i have time
also, what is the name of the product one could put into the oil before a change to clean up the engine?

The stuff you are thinking of is called oil flush, im sure most motor part shops sell it. However there is allot of talk on the net about how flushing an engine can damage it....im not really 100% certain as ive only breezed through it myself, but id read up on it before you do it.
Cheap mods that id recommend:
Viscous fan delete.
very easy to do. All you need is an electric fan switch and an electric fan and shroud from the junkyard.
Fog your airbox.
Take out all the foam and plastic frame from inside your airbox.
Block the standard hole, and get rid of all the pipe work leading to it.
Cut a big hole in the front (below the level of the airfilter for obvous reasons)
connect a piece of flexi pipe to the hole and place the other end somewhere that it will get loads of air.
Fit an oil catch can.

in addition to that you could drill a third input in the catch can and connect it to your crank case breather :)

How about removing the air conditioning?

there is already no A/C
the airbox is already out. i will be building a heat shield though.
thanks for the suggestions, it helps me think about what to do next.

is it worth it to seamfoam by the vacuum?

about the COP conversion. do i have to modify a certain coils boot?

No, you have to cut one of the mounting ears, There are pictures around that show it, but it is pretty self explanatory once you start putting it together.

another silly question: what are the different sizes/gauges of the vaccum, coolant and fuel lines in the engine bay?
i want to buy myself a good supply of standard hoses while i'm at it but i'm wondering which to buy at the local store
