Hello ! i have a problem , my starter has started to do problems , not being able to start the car , i have to turn the key more than 5 times to get the starter to connect to the engine and start the car...
i want to change the starter , but can anyone tell me in what models did bmw fit the same startet with the m42 engine ?
thank you..

check first the electric connections from your starter to the rest..

Check your starting circuit first. Sounds like your starter works, but is having a problem getting the juice. check your ground path from the starter to the block. It grounds through the mounting surface.

Don't forget to check the ignition switch, too...I have a funky one in my e34; you have to know the trick to start the car.

The starter itself is the same on all e30's. Only the pinion is different.

i have fixed the problem by installing a new cluch-gear into the starter...that was the problem....thank you.
