Title: what to change on engine while it's out of the car.
Post by: thejimlab on May 11, 2006, 08:16:48 AM
I will have the engine out of the car, and seperated from the tranny soon. What  sort of preventative maintenance should I do while it's out. Water pump, timing chain, and gasket or seals?

Put in all new gasket and seal sets.  I also replaced all the sensors.  There's only three I think.  Two sensors in the head and one in the back of the oil filter housing (oil pressure sender).  The crank position and cam sensors are run off of magnets and shouldn't need replacing.

I just did all this, including timing chain and water pump, guide rails, etc.  The engine is just about 100% back together now.

Oh yeah, pull the intake manifold and go all those stupid coolant lines, fuel lines and ventilation hoses under it.  There's a mess of them!  New hose clamps don't hurt either.
