Title: ...nomad...
Post by: nomad on April 20, 2008, 10:31:22 PM
Finally!
Got the car running nicely, and finally took some time and cleaned it up.
Completely stock right now, with no missing parts
Now I'm saving for some suspension work.

Very nice and tidy 318iS!  Great looking car...  And also a very good choice in saving for suspension mods...  As you have most likely read on the forums and what I'm sure most E30 addicts will attest to, suspension work on an E30 makes the car so much more rewarding to drive!

Wow - very clean M42!  Is that the original paint?

Original paint as far as I can tell. Typical wear and tear that don't always show in pics.
I finally threw some wax on and was shocked at how it came out. I've been under the hood so long I got used to seeing the grungy old side of her.

I'm going to coat the inside with some UV vinyl protectant since it has to sit outside. I'm looking for a car cover now.

I'll be looking for deals on all this suspension stuff as this is all vintage 1991 right now.

OK, getting ready to really hit the suspension hard and i'll do final transformation pics.
Here's a sneak peak:

major things coming? volvo lip, sable sideskirts, black kidneys, vogtland springs, tint, red tails, black rear spoiler, and more on the inside and engine.

The car looks super clean man. Sounds like you are planning some very tasteful mods, I can't wait.

Nice clean car. Hoping to buy a 318is soon!

Just wondering what size wheels and tires you are running on the car, and if the wheels are hard to find?
thanks,
jm

Very clean example... I approve :)

Suspension is definitely the best upgrade for these from what I hear and from experience.

Wheels are just clean examples of the stock 14X6.5 inch basketweaves. As you may realize now, they are easy to find and super cheap, if you pick up a 4dr 318i with bottlecaps standard.

New car in the junkyard had great clean basketweaves on it.
I'm contemplating yanking them but i really have no need for another set. I've got my eye on some 15s or possibly 16s.

OK, did the electric fan conversion, burped the rad after a new water pump and installed the volvo lip. Cranked it up and ran it around town a bit and everything is still purring.
So nice to drive it again.
Dang SRS light is on though from running down the battery and fiddling with the check panel.

That is one clean e30. Surprisingly clean. I congratulate you on that. I drove my friends e30 with a suspension upgrade. Bilstein sport shocks with H&R race springs. The E30's are wayyyyyyyyy more fun to drive than my e36. But my e36 is more fun to drive than a e46. Good luck with your mods and keep us updated. Can you take a picture with the Volvo lip on?

Yep, here's a pic of just the front work to date.
Black kidneys are almost ready.

Whose wheels and the new spoiler make the car look completely different!

Where did you find that spoiler? I'd LOVE one

If you're talking about the trunk, that's the M-technic spoiler

Yep, mtech1 rear spoiler.
I got one for a good price. It was sort of beat up and you can't tell in the pics. But I'm budget minded so i cleaned it all up and its good enough for me.
still need to do a bunch of sanding and cleaning of the wheels too.

I am budget minded too, but my 318is doesn't look this good...  I WILL have that spoiler.  It looks beautiful, I was previously considering an e30 M3 spoiler, evo3 in particular, but I am afraid of it looking ricey on a regular e30.

Thanks
Well, the car's been sitting for a bit. I didn't want to run it till I changed the leaky oil filter body gasket and while I have it up on the stands I'll finally install the E36 steering rack, E36 M3 shift lever and rebuild kit, and my armrest rear seat, and 4.10 Med case LSD.

I'm also not in love with the sideskirts as they are sagging with time, may want to look for something else, but I have minimal $ for that.
