Does anyone know the total number of M42 powered E30's and E36's in 1991? Which chassis saw more m42's in '91 in the US?

More interesting quesion: Which E36 318 models got the M42 engine vs the M40 in Euorope? The M42 was the standard engine on all 318i,is and ti models in the US but I think thats the exception to the rule. Did any of the 316 models get a 16 valve head?

318is e30, 318is e36, 318ti e36, z3 this models has the m42b18 engine in europe.. the 318i e30 has the m40 engine and NO the 16valve engine was not fit in a 316i.. it was only available with a veeeery small 8valve engine..

ahem... don't forget about us 91 318ic owners... we have M42's too... :)

Wouldn't the answer to this be "no e36 M42 powered cars in 91" because they were introduced in the US as a 92 model? 1992 had M42 powered e36 sedans and e30 convertibles only. And a very small number of 1993 e30 convertibles were built which I believe were all M42 powered because the M20 was dead at that point, but i may be mistaken..

The reason I asked the question was because autohausaz.com shows the '91 318is as an E36, and so while going to that website and picking 318is yielded M42 parts, it also yielded E36 specific parts. I too thought that it was only E30's in '91, so I emailed the parts department to see if it was an error.
This is the reply I got.
In 1991 BMW produced two 318is models, one on the E30 chassis and the other on the E36 chassis. While both were available, most 318is vehicle sold in the US were E36 chassis. This is while our catalog displays the 1991 318is as an E36 chassis vehicle.
I was hoping I could get some data to show him that it was E30's in '91, or, if E36's were in fact more common, just to know.
I've been going under the E30 318i (not is) to search for parts now, unless I know it's a 2 door specific item. Of course, you can always just search for part number and get exactly what you want just as well.
*Edit: Spelling mistake*

At least in Europe M42 convertibles were not available. The only M42 powered european model E30 was 318IS. 318I was 8V M40 equipped like also 316I was.
