Title: New Water Pump Spritz! Stupid thing!
Post by: nomad on April 16, 2008, 01:20:27 AM
I get the whole head back together and I swear i bought this Water Pump not a year ago (and got about 100 miles on it) and when i test drive the car today I see a little spritzing of coolant under the WP pulley and a few drops on the Crank pulley.

Not coming from the T-stat housing either. I had a new WP o-ring too. Dang, I can't believe I got a bad WP. What else could it be? I'm considering leaving it for a while and just keeping an eye on it. I don't drive it hardly at all and don't feel like buying a new one.

Anyone else have a new WP take a dump?

Maybe it's your gasket or the bolts aren't tight ?

The gasket is a big fat o-ring and it went in tight. I bolted each side down a few turns and it brought the WP into it's seat. I can't imagine how water is getting around that gasket. I also put a very thin coat of gasket maker on the gasket to make up for any irregularities in the mating surfaces. The bolts were tight to the point I didn't want to twist anymore since the torque is to be 10nm.

I'll check it out soon. Super annoying because the WP is new and it seems to be weeping.
