Title: M42 Crank Case Breather
Post by: Drift Doctor on April 04, 2008, 02:57:14 AM
Can I remove the pipe that runs from the Valve/cam cover to the bottom of the throttle body, fit a crank case breath filter to the valve cover outlet, and blank off the connection at the bottom of the throttle body. Or would this effect any thing?

On the plus side it keeps an older motor cleaner in the intake and plugs an opening into the intake. On the negative, it's illegal as to the smog laws and creates a little more potential for oil leaks due to eliminating a slight vacuum inside the crankcase.

A different method, which is the best of booth worlds is running a catch can.
You dont have to buy these and you can make one very easily yourself.

(apart from pepsi, which will blow your car up....seriously youve been warned : P )

Id suggest using a low density sponge........bob square pants:D

An alternative to this is using a bottle....use whichever is easiest for you!

oil on hot metal =:confused::mad:.
Oh and make sure to keep it vertical.

You do this by drilling two holes in the side of the can, preferably on the opposite side to the pipes. Drill one hole 15mm from the top and the other 15mm from the bottom.
Now try and bend your pipe (sounds painfull) so that it is as straight as possible and then has two 90 bends, so that the tube is parralel to the can, apart from at the two ends where it would be perpendicular.

You can draw a simple scale on the side of the can reading from "meh" all the way upto "WTF"...which stands for "Wow, This is Full".

You can do this by drilling a hole in the bottom of the can, glueing in a piece of tubing and then threading in a bolt that is a similar size to the tube.
Then when your catch can is at "WTF" it can quickly be returned to a
non cholaunt "Meh"
[/LIST]

You now have yourself a kickass homemade catch can, and saved yourself $75 by not buying one from cusco.

Oh i forgot....make sure to drain the can of RedBull first....it wont give your car wings...trust me!

Next week...Home made CAI:D:D:D

^^^^ nice set up..

any problems with the set up.. preformance wise.. or throwing codes?

just asking because the route is about 4-5 times longer than what it used to be from the head to the manifold
