-fan blower
-
Welcome!
Are those white kidneys or are they just white from the snow? :)
-
i painted them white, inspired by this M3 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=NE-V3TaNGss)
-
Ahaha. Nice.
I didn't even notice.
Custom skidplate? Are you prepping for track or rally?
-

spark plugs
m54 coils
COP plate
upper intake manifold gasket
lower intake manifold gasket
timing chain tensionner
a bentley's manual

did you look into denso iridium plugs?
the only thing I use nowadays.
-
i'm going with the replacement plugs that were listed in realoem. i have ignition/misfires problems so i dont want to start experimenting with different plugs just yet. i might eventually though. thanks for the advice!
-
i think your project is gonna wait a few months...!!attention australia... hoevesruperd is on the way!!
by the way..what books are those?and how much did you paid for them?...
-
The "red" book is the Bentley Manual. Those can be found on most vendor sites in the price range of about $40-$50 (U.S.). You can also find them on eBay from time to time for roughly $30-$40 (plus whatever shipping fees the seller adds).
The E30 Bible he has, I've never seen that one. I'd be interested to know what good E30 info is in that book and if there are any M42 references! Any more info on that one?

good info about models and where to find rust
quote from the book
«THE M42 ENGINE,
this little jewel has been described as a poor man's S14, all the ingredients are there; steel crankshaft, twin camshaft and 16 valves, plus a chain drive for the camshafts. unlike the m40 on which it was based, the m42 1.8 is a tough old thing that will take quite a lot of neglect, but like any engine, it does have its problems in old age. the best known of these is the dreaded profile gasket that sits at the front...blablabla...timing chain are also a moot point, and like the M3 a tensionner will cure most problems.. used engines are available and its possible to fit a later e36 engine or even the later 1.9 units»
... very basic info but usefull for someone buying its first e30 i guess
i'll read it all this summer and post whatever i find interesting
yes the marvelous brilliantrot's restoration will be delayed by a few thousand dollars
i'll make sure it'll be functional for the summer and then its time for the body work and basic structural restoration over the winter.
then one day... M50 turbo hahaha (i'm not serious on this one... especially with the gas price at 1.40$ / liter )

YES, the "poormans" m3 or even faster... hehehe...

you mean m42 turbo!!!!
and we do have
1.75$/liter normalfuel:o
1.85$/liter superfuel:confused:
1.90$/liter shell 100octane:mad:
1.96$/liter diesel:eek:
THAT ARE PRICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
sucks to live with those gas prices :p
$3.60/gallon - regular 87 octane
$3.70/gallon - plus 89 octane
$3.86/gallon - premium 91 octane
1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters
do your own freakin conversions :)
...such low octanes here....
-
may update
-new timing chain tensionner
-painted valve cover gasket
-new sparkplugs
-COP conversion
-oil change
-cleaned intake runners/ICV/vacuum hoses
needs:
-new timing chain, sprockets... :(
-complete powersteering delete (i'm still looking for M14 and M16 screws)
-brake pads (maybe rotors)
-suspension (the oem one is going bad and driving almost feels like ...)
-body work (big time, this car is more of a rustafarian than a classic e30)
-tires
-CAI heat shield and support
-lots of parts restoration, i.e. painting the headlights casing
-wiper linkage
-fan blower
-a lot more....
pictures!!!

cool pics my friend..
the cop conv. looks amazing..
i like the red garage...:D
-
i like that garage too!! my dad built it a few years ago. now its full of tractors and wood being dried! hopefully he's building another bigger barn where i have reserved a spot for my e30 and another spot for an eventual porsche. as soon as this winter, the e30 will fall into coma and i want to take it all apart, do the body work and install only overhauled components i really need... lightweight! and maybe a better engine (still an m42 but by better i mean, one with real timing gears, good compression and maybe a little better head and bore)
