Can anyone tell me what features were available with the 1991 318 BMW factory alarm system?
Also, what do the original key fobs look like for these alarm systems?
If needing to purchase replacement key fobs, once having the replacements in hand, can one program the key fobs in their driveway, or is this something that has to be completed by the Dealer?

All it does is lock and unlock, thats it. Here is what the remote looks like.. (the ring mount for the keys is broken off of both of my remotes)

The alarm system is actually an Alpine alarm. Acura used the same system back then too, I had the same option in my 94 Integra GSR.

The system has a siren (BMW factory siren) - so maybe it does more than just lock/unlock? The car is a 318ic, did they have different alarm combos?

Of course it has a siren, its an alarm.. You asked "what features" it has, not much. The unit Acura used had a 3 button remote with one of the buttons being "option", the units look exactly the same from what I can remember.

Suppose I purchase the correct style new used key fobs off of someone (or eBay) - can I program or allow the system to learn the new remotes or do I have to go to a BMW Dealer to have them program the new remotes?
If you know, what is the procedure for programming new or replacement remotes? If you don't want to say here if the question presents a security issue as far as how this can be done, you can PM me.
Thx!

My remote has a little removable chip in it that I would image you can swap over to the new remote..
